Lots of news!

Well, a lot has changed since my last post.  Coop has a job now with the Tennessean.  The pay is decent and there isn't the traveling involved like the other opportunity.  Today marks the end of his first week there and I think he is going to like it there.

We are now living in our rental house.  I really like the house.  I would like it a lot better if our household goods were here but it looks like they won't be here until around August 10th.  It is good to be on our own again.  It still feels weird to be near family on a regular basis, but we are dealing with it pretty well.

The kids are adjusting okay.  I think things will be better for them once we have their toys and such here, but for now they are doing okay.  They like having their own rooms again.  Poor Sofie isn't a fan of all the hardwood flooring here though.

Overall, a weight has been lifted off of us.  We were seriously starting to crack with no job and no house and all of the things that go along with that.  Technically he was only unemployed for a little over a month which is nothing in today's economy, but when you are in the middle of it, it seems like forever.

So here we are, building a new life here in TN.  I think in the long run it will be the best decision for us.

Small update to my previous post.

So Coop called from his ride along with the current company he is interviewing with.  The ride along went well, but they still have more to do.  So we probably won't hear from them for another couple weeks.  So far it has already been over a month with this company.  Even the guy Coop went with today said that he doesn't like the long process because they lose out on quality people.  He is right.  If another job comes along then Coop isn't going to wait it out with this company.

He does have a phone consultation at 1:30 today that is a continuation of yesterdays phone consult.  This is at the corporate level though.  Hopefully this one pans out because it seems to be better all the way around and we know that they need someone quickly.  Of course, this other job he has been interviewing for said they needed someone immediately, but their definition seems to be a bit different.

*sigh*

I hope something comes through soon.  Being patient is sooooooo not easy.

Life is funny.

My last post was on May 22.  Here we are over a month later and I haven't updated.  Honestly, there hasn't been much to update.  Just a lot of frustration and uncertainty really.  Jobs weren't happening.  Interviews would go well but ultimately, they wouldn't hire him.  Nothing against Coop, but most jobs have been looking for a specific skill set that he didn't fit.  Just how things go.

This wasn't how we had hoped things would go when we got out of the military.  We were hoping to be under contract on a house by now and Coop would have a job.   It looks like we are taking a small detour.  We left Coop's parent's house to live with my parents for a while.  While we have been living here, we have found a house to rent.  We signed the lease on the house on Tuesday and get the keys next Saturday.  Unfortunately, all of our household goods are still in Alaska and it will take a month or so for it to get here.  We need the address though because school starts here on the 1st of August and Ben needs to be enrolled.

With the housing situation taken care of, that only left the job situation.  Three weeks ago Coop interviewed with a company that could work out really well for us.  We hadn't heard from them so we assumed he didn't get the job.  Well, Monday they called him asking if he was interested in a ride-along.  This is almost the final step to them offering the job.  On top of that, he got a phone call last night from another opportunity that is really interested in him.  He has another phone consult with this company this afternoon.  So, after weeks of frustration and nothing happening, we might be turning the corner.  Of course we do not want to count our chickens before they hatch but things are looking quite promising.  Hopefully after today we will know more.

I am thrilled that we will be having our own house to rent.  It is a bit small, but it is big enough for our needs for now.  Next summer we will re-evaluate our situation and hopefully be ready to buy a house.

Once we get settled and Ben starts school I am going to try to find a job for myself.  Now that I am done with school, I want to get back out and work.  Getting my foot in the door after years of staying home with kids and going to school could prove to be a little difficult though.  We will see what happens though!

So that is our update.  Hopefully there will be more to update this afternoon or tomorrow.

Job Update.

Well, still no job yet.  Coop went to an interview on Friday that went well he said.  Hopefully we hear something this week if they decide to go further with him.  He also has 2 other opportunities and one with his brother's girlfriends company.  It is awesome to have opportunities, but it will be great to actually nail down a job so that we can move forward and start the home buying process.  Patience, patience, patience.  I am not normally a patient person but this situation has caused me to find patience where I never thought I would find any.  We just keep plugging along and praying things will work out soon.

Poor Sofie!

Well if life isn't stressful enough for us lately, Sofie has been at the vet all weekend after having surgery.

Friday afternoon, my MIL, SIL and Ben were walking Sofie and Pogo (SIL's dog) on the leashes to get the mail.  They were in our yard when the neighbor across the street opened the gate to pull a car in and their dog got loose.  The dog proceeded to head straight for the dogs and our Sofie is the one that got the brunt of the attack.  :(

The kids and the other dog are fine, but Sofie wound up going to the vet for surgery due to a hernia and a deep puncture wound.  She is going to be just fine, she is just resting and recovering for the weekend.  We can pick her up tomorrow.  The owner of the dog will be paying for her vet bill (to the tune of around 700 bucks) so luckily we don't have to.  I mean, we would have if he wasn't going to, but I am glad he is doing the right thing and is going to pay for it.

That incident kind of set the mood for the weekend and everyone has kind of been in a funk.  The job interviews and job opportunities that Coop got on Friday afternoon were kind of forgotten once Sofie got hurt.  She is a very loved member of our family and we will all be glad when she is back home here with us.

Interview.

Tomorrow Coop has another interview for a job. We passed on this job a couple weeks ago because it wasn't the ideal job and he was going to interview for the state. Well, the state job didn't work out so we are revisiting this job. I am cautiously optimistic. Jobs are hard to come by here and we really need something. He can still look for something better but this will put money in the bank and get us in a house for now. We need this. I hope it comes through. *crossing finger*

Tennessee.

Well, we are in TN now. It has been two weeks since we got here. It is good to be home but a bit stressful as well. We are living with Coop's parents for the time being. It is going ok, but I really would have a date to be leaving. Nothing against his parents at all, but imiss having my own place.

Coop is still job hunting. He has had a couple of interviews and one job offer, but the money was horrible. At the moment he is just kind of searching and applying when he finds something. I know it has only been 2 weeks, but we are concerned. I guess anyone would be. Right now we pray and keep pressing on. It will happen, we just have to be patient. Patience is not one of my virtues but I have been learning how to be patient lately. I think I am handling it pretty good considering.

The kids are okay. Their life is all crazy and so they have good days and bad days. They are tough though and will adjust pretty well. They just need some time.

Being here is definitely an adjustment. It will take some getting used to but I hope that by the end of summer, we will be on our way to settling into our new life here in TN.
